Make sure that you use crisco and grease and flour the pan just like the directions say. It is better to use a dense cake. Traditional yellow cake recipes made with cake flour will probably be to light. When you bake the cake, disregard the directions that come with the pan. The instructions that come with the pan say to bake at 350 for 30 min but this will NOT work. Your cake will be ruined. Instead, do the following...
1. Lower the temperature to 325 instead of 350.
2. Bake the cake on one rack down from the center of your oven.
3. Increase the cooking time. It will take 45-60 min or more.
4. Increase the amount of time that the cake cools in the pan to 30min.
I have always loved sunflowers, and this is a very pretty cake once it is decorated. Just follow my suggestions, and it will turn out fine.
